Ceylon Artisanal Tea Farmers

Ceylon Artisanal Tea Farmers is a group of small farmers who craft some of the most unique and exceptional handmade artisan teas available today. These dedicated producers preserve traditional methods while infusing creativity into their work, resulting in a diverse range of flavors and experiences that truly reflect the island’s rich heritage. A group of these small scale entrepreneurs who specialize in producing unique handmade, artisan teas, formed an association of eight tea producers in 2020, namely the Ceylon Artisanal Tea Association. This Association’s primary focus is to reposition Ceylon Tea in a new context by showcasing the diverse varieties available, ultimately helping to increase the incomes of small farmers and their workers.

Artisanal tea farmers produce an array of handmade teas, including meticulously crafted black teas, pan-fired and steamed green teas, delicate white teas, silver tips, and even forest-harvested wild teas. Each variety showcases the unique characteristics of the regions in which they are grown, reflecting the rich biodiversity and traditional practices of Sri Lanka. These artisanal teas not only highlight the skill of the producers but also offer tea lovers an opportunity to experience truly exceptional flavors and aromas.

These artisanal teas are unique to each region of Sri Lanka, reflecting the distinct elevations and terroirs. Ebony Springs, Lumbini Tea Valley, AMBA Estate and Kaley Natural Farms are some of the popular names associated with tea estates producing these exceptional brews that are surrounded by the island’s natural resources, enhancing the quality and character of the teas. This initiative not only celebrates the craftsmanship of local farmers but also fosters a deeper appreciation for the rich diversity of Sri Lankan tea.
